Nathalie Segelborg is a Swedish blogger that I came across and I especially like how she has a correlation between traveling and mental health which I strongly believe in. I’m glad to have her apart of the Know Thy Traveler series and to hear her perspectives.

Know Thy Traveler – Marina Strasser

Marina is an Austrian born World Traveler. I came across her blog where she took the approach of interviewing people from all over the world and asking them in depth questions about their life, their home country and Stereotypes that people hold about their homeland. I find her style to be interesting and glad to feature her.

The Pros and Cons of Staying in Hostels in Europe

Wombats Hostel in Berlin

If you asked me years ago would I be interested in paying money to sleep in a room with strangers in bunk-beds, I would have said “Hell No”. Maybe it’s the American in me that immediately is suspicious of strangers especially people in a different country. Maybe it’s the constant reminder from people of the horror movie “Hostel”. Either way, my feelings about Hostels has changed significantly to the point where I prefer to stay in a Hostel. For those of you who have never stayed in a Hostel, here are some Pros and Cons (Hostel Recommendations will be at the Bottom).

Know Thy Traveler – Digvijay Chauhan

Our first feature is from someone I found online that is showing an inspirational message that traveling and seeing the world is healing. His videos are well made and his Instagram is filled with beautiful photos of nature and the people he has encountered. I posed a series of questions for him to gain his perspective on traveling and the affect on his life.

Why Berlin should be on your shortlist

You ever have that feeling of deja vu? I swear I have it every time I tell a friend that I’m going to Berlin and their response is inevitably “Again?”…yes AGAIN. I never have a chance to really explain in detail why I love Berlin and why I keep going back to this wonderful city. First let me state that I’m biased to Germany in general. I took an interest in the German language which led for me to meet native German speakers and to eventually go to Germany. Even with me being biased, I still have great reasons why Berlin should be somewhere on your shortlist if you’re planning to go to Europe.

Why you should solo travel and how it can help your social anxiety

What made you start to solo travel? I actually started solo traveling by accident. My first trip to Europe, even though I flew by myself, I was meeting someone there so I don’t really count that experience. My second trip to Europe was supposed to involve a friend of mine and a month before he was no longer able to go.

Ok, so why should I solo travel? If I could sum up solo traveling in one word, it would be “freeing”. It’s the freedom of going where ever you want to go, when you want to go and do whatever you want. There have been times I talk to people about their travel experiences with others and they may travel with their best friend but there is always some sort of mixup in travel styles. You want to wake up early, they want to sleep in…you want to see museums, they want to walk around the city…they are hungry, you’re not. All of that is erased because in the most selfish manner, it’s about what you want.

It’s official…booked 16 nights in Europe!

It’s been over a year of traveling and my experiences have been life changing for me. I’ve met so many people and I told myself that I’ll do my best to keep those relationships no matter where they may be from. While I was in Munich, one of the cool people I met was a guy named Ruben from Amsterdam. He mentioned he never went to Berlin so when I proposed the idea of partying in Berlin for the weekend, he was game.

Of course while I’m in Europe, I want to see other places. I recently found out that I had more time off I can use this year…so I decided to do another 16 night bounce around Europe like I did last year.

So here is the game plan:

My thoughts on my 15 days away

So Im officially back in America. It was a long 15 days in Europe but I had a great time. The world is a beautiful place. This trip took me out of my comfort zone by going solo but it allowed me to make new friends from all over and Im sure Ill stay in contact with.

I will say that I never felt in danger throughout the whole trip, everyone I encountered was pretty cool and helpful. My favorite places were a tie between Paris and Berlin for different reasons. Paris is absolutely beautiful no matter street you go down. Berlin was great for the party scene, the people were great and its a cool & interesting city.
