Know Thy Traveler – Octavian Alexandru Pitigoi

by adamstravels

Octavian Alexandru Pitigoi is an video editor that I met online recently. His videos are beautiful, showing you a different look of the city and the people that live there. It feels like a natural look rather than a superficial view of a city that most people capture. I’m honored to have him featured in the Know Thy Traveler series.

Follow him: OAP Multimedia on Facebook, YouTube and his website www.alexpitigoi.com

What is your name?

My name is Octavian Alexandru Pitigoi.

Where are you from and where do you currently reside?

I am from Romania and currently I reside in Czech Republic.

What do you do for a living?

I am an aspiring video editor and at the moment I am working in the European Institutions in the communications field.

What countries have you traveled to and which was your favorite?

I have traveled all over Europe, except Finland, Norway, Croatia, Bosnia and Albania. I plan to visit these countries as well. I have not been outside of Europe so far, but I am planning to do this someday. My favorite country so far would definitely be my home country, Romania.

Do you prefer to travel alone or with someone and why?

Both. When I travel alone, I usually create vlogs and produce short films about my travels. When travelling with friends, I tend to socialize rather than filming.

How would you describe your life before you started traveling?

Probably a bit dull.

How has traveling changed your life?

Travelling has helped me better understand different cultures and individuals.

What is your favourite aspect of traveling?

My favourite aspect of travelling is finding out as much as possible about the place I am going to. For example, before going somewhere, I tend to get advice from people that are actually living in that place (by reading blogs, asking questions on local forums, etc.). I also like to watch videos of the place and see what other people have experienced and what their recommendations would be.

Where is your next destination?

Probably London , England.

Have there been any moments while traveling when you felt in danger or uncomfortable? How did you get away from it?

So far, I have been lucky that I did not felt in danger or uncomfortable.

What pre-cautions do you take for the safety of your property and yourself?

I tend to avoid going out at night. I usually stay in hotels or hostels, which I have booked from trusted sites.  I never travel with valuables and also I avoid having cash in my wallet.

What advice would you give to someone aspiring to become a frequent traveller?

Travel as much as you can and always try the local dishes from the places you are travelling to.
